End Jew Hatred Petitions Governor Hochul to Remove Mayor Mamdani Over Manhattan Stabbings

Activists and community organizers are pressing New York Governor Kathy Hochul to remove New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from office, arguing his administration has failed to protect vulnerable minorities following a pair of Manhattan stabbings in which neither victim was protected from an attacker reportedly shouting “Allahu Akbar.”

Central to the campaign’s grievances are accusations regarding equal protection and hate crimes. Organizers note that the mayor revoked the city’s antisemitism framework, modeled on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition, on his first day in office and did not replace it with an alternative policy.

Criticism Over Official Communications

The petition’s authors also took issue with the administration’s use of official communication channels, pointing to a video — viewed more than 90 million times — in which city platforms were used to label a foreign head of government, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a war criminal unwelcome in the city. The mayor later acknowledged he had no actual authority to arrest the premier.

Organizers additionally cited the mayor’s veto of school safety legislation Intro 175-B, concerns over relaxed child welfare screening procedures, and allegations of whistleblower retaliation within the city’s Department of Probation.

Voices From the Rally

The campaign launched with a demonstration outside state offices, where journalist and commentator Zack Sage Fox told the crowd the group was demanding removal proceedings against the mayor, stressing that the effort rests on legal grounds.

AMMWEC President Anila Ali also addressed the rally, rejecting the mayor’s rhetoric and framing his politics as emblematic of a broader ideological current she considers incompatible with mainstream American Muslim values.

Ali went further, telling attendees the mayor’s positions were unmasked upon his election and warning that the ideology behind them echoes the radical movements associated with the September 11 attacks — arguing that Islam itself has been “hijacked” by such currents.

Singer and activist Ghazal Mizrahi also spoke, describing her family’s experience fleeing Iran’s Islamic regime and framing her presence at the rally through both her Iranian-Jewish and American identity.

Legal and Political Response

Assemblyman Novakhov announced a formal complaint to the Department of Justice, saying he was following through on a commitment to hold the mayor accountable for what he described as fueling antisemitism in New York.

Jayne Zirkle, director of communications at the Lawfare Project and an End Jew Hatred organizer, said her organization stands with families of 9/11 victims in requesting that the mayor not attend this year’s memorial ceremony, citing his past association with pro-Hamas voices and a visit to a mosque whose imam had ties to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Organizers say they intend to deliver all signed petitions directly to the Executive Chamber in Albany, formally requesting that Governor Hochul initiate removal proceedings against the mayor.
